New Horizons for OT Helen Simmonds-Smith
NEW HORIZONs for OT Helen Simmonds-Smith,
Congratulations to Helen, Occupational Therapist and OTNZ-WNA member for being invited by the Hon. Minister of Education to attend the 2018 Education Summit in Christchurch. Helen will represent OTNZ-WNA at the release of the ministry’s 3 year Education Work Programme.
Helen recently joined Wellstop in a newly created OT role working with children, youth and adults in the area of harmful sexual behaviours. Working with children alongside clinicians and supporting their wider network, families and whanau, schools and government agencies in the area of harmful sexual behaviour, her territory covers the Wellington, Wairarapa and Kapiti areas.
Many of the children and youth in her care have developmental disabilities or a history of trauma and neglect.
This is an exciting opportunity for Helen and a good example of career options that are available to OT’s choosing to step outside of mainstream DHB employment and private practice.
